The Brera was a car which I immediately felt had potential. However, not all of this potential was realised. The Brera S was a project which set out to address this but again it failed to fully match the engine to the chassis potential. Autodelta offered a solution but I have never believed in after market modifications, for various reasons, mainly re-sale considerations, I was slow to realise that whatever the impact, it was less expensive than the depreciation on an equivalent car costing perhaps £ 60,000 plus. It also might be fun.
So I undertook this project. The supercharger and attendant modifications made an enormous difference of course. However, I was convinced that further work was needed by Autodelta, who wanted to change the manifold and the exhaust cat almost as soon as I got the Brera back.
What the Supercharger did was release the engine and chassis potential; what the subsequent exhaust modifications did was release the superchargers potential. Almost unbelievable improvements in power torque and (now) throttle response. And it’s an Alfa! Even Jano was impressed by his creation.
All of this was completed with great patience, as my hand was held by Autodelta through the owner’s paranoia about the impact of these changes were having on his engine and transmission. Naturally we all became pals in the end, in that that typical Alfa way as we bond around that exocentric brand one comes to love.
Treat yourself.
